Virginia man charged with attempted homicide

A Virginia resident has been charged with attempted homicide and related offenses following an incident at a Monroe County service station.

State police at Stroudsburg said on Tuesday at 1:53 p.m. troopers responded to the area of the Gulf service station and Days Inn hotel at 5200 Seven Bridge Road, Smithfield Township, for a report of a suspicious man with a gun. As troopers responded they received a report of the man discharging the firearm at a vehicle.

Troopers were able to locate the man inside the service station and took him into custody. He was identified as Daniel King, 38, of Virginia Beach.

After conducting interviews, it was learned that the man had followed the victims out of the Gulf station and as they were driving away pointed a handgun in the direction of their vehicle and fired a shot. No one was injured in the incident.

King was arraigned on charges of two counts of attempted criminal homicide, four counts of aggravated assault and one count of possession of firearm prohibited, all felonies; and misdemeanor counts of two counts of recklessly endangering another person and one count of terroristic threats.

He is currently an inmate in the county prison in Snydersville.
