Man charged with harassment; police called twice in one day

Tamaqua police have charged a borough man with harassment after being called to a residence twice in one day.

Jordan Robert Rumberger, 34, of the 300 block of Clarke Street, Tamaqua, is facing charges of simple assault (2 counts), and harassment (2 counts), with one count a misdemeanor and the second a summary, for an incident at 12:02 a.m. on July 10.

Police responded to Rumberger’s residence for a reported domestic. On scene officers found a woman outside on the porch holding a newborn baby. She said Rumberger punched her in the face twice, and poked her in the forehead. Officers noted they did not see any marks on her face. She said she wanted Rumberger to leave the residence. There was a disagreement between the two over two children in the home, with Rumberger wanting to take one with him. Police told them that was a civil matter and they could not say which child stays or goes. Police also told the woman they could only charge him with harassment. They then left.

At 1:31 a.m. police were called back to the residence by a third party. On scene officers learned there was a dispute between Rumberger and the woman over the use of the internet and a phone in the residence. A confrontation occurred in an upstairs bedroom over the phone during which Rumberger grabbed the female around the throat and pushed her to the floor, slamming her face off of the floor. The woman said this occurred twice. She then went downstairs as Rumberger was on the phone. She claimed he was yelling that he was going to kill her. Police then arrested him.

Rumberger was arraigned before on-call District Judge Anthony J. Kilker of Shenandoah, and was committed to the county prison after failing to post $15,000 straight case bail. He has since been released from the prison.
