Crashes investigated

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers recently.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 7:43 p.m. on July 18 on Interstate 80 in Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Joseph R. Holland, 38, of Tamaqua, was driving a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 truck in the right lane eastbound when he lost control and swerved across the left lane onto the north berm.

The truck traveled for about 250 feet before it struck a guide rail, causing disabling damages. The truck traveled about 3 feet down an embankment and came to rest.

Holland and his passenger, Laurie A. Campomizzi, 35, of Tamaqua, were treated at the scene for injuries but declined further treatment. The truck was towed.

Holland was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A crash was reported at 2:29 p.m. on July 18 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Alicia D. Marshall, 56, of Kunkletown, was stopped due to traffic ahead of her when her 2015 Jeep Cherokee was struck in the rear by a 2003 Mercedes-Benz driven by Kendal A. Librizzi, 24, of Scranton. Librizzi fled the scene but Marshall was able to obtain vehicle information on Librizzi. Marshall suffered a minor injury and was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel.

Librizzi was cited.

• A crash was reported at 3:45 p.m. on July 16 along Effort Neola Road, in Jackson Township, Monroe County. Melissa A. Peters, 30, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 1998 Honda Accord northbound at an excessive rate of speed, causing her to lose control of her vehicle. The vehicle veered off the right side of the road and struck a telephone pole, where it came to rest.

Peters was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.

She was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• Troopers are looking for the driver of a 2015 Audi A8 that crashed at 12:19 a.m. on July 23 along Route 534 in Penn Forest Township, Carbon County.

Troopers said the vehicle was driven westbound by a driver, suspected to be under the influence, when it went off the road on the right side, crashed into two traffic signs and two utility poles.

It then traveled about 800 feet before coming to rest in the middle of the road. The driver fled the scene.

• A two-vehicle crash occurred at 9:15 a.m. on July 15 along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township, Monroe County. Troopers said Corey W. Halley, 43, of Jersey City, New Jersey, and Joseph Jenkins, 63, of Minerva, Ohio, were both westbound.

Troopers said Halley was attempting to move into the left lane to pass Jenkins when the front of his 2003 Honda CRV struck the back left bumper of a trailer portion of Jenkins’ 2016 Peterbilt truck.

The Honda spun counterclockwise and came to rest on the shoulder of the road.

No one was injured. Halley was cited for the crash.

• A crash occurred along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township, involving vehicles operated by Michael J. Brengel, 27, of Effort and Clarissa C. Albelli, 18, of Kunkletown. Troopers did not provide any details of the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 11:56 a.m. on July 15 along North Road in Jackson Township. Charles R. Hopkins, 29, of Stroudsburg, was driving a 2013 Honda Civic eastbound and lost control driving around a curve. The Honda traveled across both lanes of travel and struck a tree and utility pole, then rolled backward, before coming to rest.

Hopkins suffered severe injuries and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest. The vehicle was towed.

Hopkins was cited for the crash.

• Troopers identified the drivers involved in a crash about 1:58 p.m. on July 20 along Sugar Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township, as Malichai P. Jones, 19, of Effort, and Vicki L. McLain, 45, of Stroudsburg. No details of the crash were given.

• Ryan J. Purgar, 18, of Saylorsburg, was driving a 2015 Nissan Altima which crashed along Route 115 in Chestnuthill Township, at 12:38 a.m. on July 26. Purgar and two passengers were not injured. Troopers did not give any details of the crash.

• Khai E. Samuels, 22, of Effort, was driving a 2009 Volkswagen Jetta westbound on July 28 at 6:56 a.m. along Sugar Hollow Road in Chestnuthill Township, when he went off the road and struck a utility pole head-on.

Samuels suffered a minor injury that did not require immediate medical attention.

He was cited for the crash.
