Tamaqua driver cited after crash

A Tamaqua driver was cited following a one-vehicle crash that occurred about 5:12 p.m. on July 22 along Interstate 78 in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County.

State police at Fogelsville said Charlene M. McGuinness, 39, was driving a 2003 Mazda MPV in the center lane westbound near the Cedar Crest exit and traveling too fast for road conditions. She lost control of the vehicle, which spun out of control into the left lane and then onto the left shoulder. The initial point of impact occurred on the front bumper of the Mazda and the center median. The Mazda came to final rest partially blocking the left shoulder and left lane.

McGuinness and her two passengers, two girls ages 11 and 13, were taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, by Cetronia ambulance. Troopers said McGuinness and the 13-year-old suffered suspected minor injuries while the 11-year-old was not injured. The Mazda was towed.

Troopers cited McGuinness for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.
