Nesquehoning police issue citations related to 209 closure

Nesquehoning police released a report on various offenders following the road closure of Route 209 between Nesquehoning and Jim Thorpe last week.

Police Chief Sean Smith said officers witnessed several drivers go around the road closed signs and even tractor-trailers coming down Route 93, which is prohibited for these vehicles, with their brakes smoking.

He said fines were issued to these drivers as a result.

Traffic citations included five failing to obey clearly posted road closed signs, which carry a $182 price tag; two trucks prohibited, which carry a $418 price tag; and one tractor-trailer violation, which included an expired registration from Georgia that cost $3,452.

Other traffic citations Nesquehoning police issued in the few weeks include: failing to stop at a posted stop sign, speeding, driver not licensed, operating a vehicle without an inspection, and transporting a child without proper car seat.
