State police report on Schuylkill crashes
State police at Frackville reported on the recent crashes on Schuylkill County roadways:
• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:35 p.m. on July 22 along the off ramp of Interstate 81 in Frailey Township.
Troopers said Orin P. McLennan, 60, of Miami, Florida, operating a 2015 Freightliner tractor with trailer, was parked along the right shoulder of the off-ramp while Cassidy R. Long, 36, of Saint Clair, was southbound in a 2015 Jeep Cherokee on the ramp and struck the trailer portion of the trailer. The Jeep spun 90 degrees clockwise and slid to rest in the ramp travel lane. No one was injured. The Jeep was towed.
Long was cited for careless driving.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 3:17 p.m. on July 20 along I-81 in Frailey Township.
Troopers said Phillip A. Vahey, 47, of Hendersonville, Tennessee, was driving a 2010 Mazda 3 southbound when he became distracted while driving around a curve. The Mazda went off the road and hit an embankment. The Mazda came to final rest about 30 feet off the road.
Vahey was not injured but the Mazda was towed. Vahey was cited for not having a valid license.
• A crash was reported on July 25 at 3:52 p.m. along Mountain Road in Blythe Township.
Troopers said Barry L. Jenkins, 38, of New Philadelphia, was driving a 2002 Dodge Ram truck southbound during a heavy rain storm. He drove through a high volume of water, crossing the road and hydroplaned. The truck slid off the right side of the road and struck a rock embankment, knocking off the front right wheel. Jenkins was not injured but the Dodge was towed.
• Troopers investigated a crash at 12:26 p.m. on July 24 along Mahanoy City Road (commonly known as the Pottsy Hill) in Mahanoy Township, near Cemetery Road.
Troopers said Xavier M. Devere-Malave, 19, of Gilberton, was driving a 2004 GMC Envoy northbound around a sweeping left curve. Devere-Malave, who troopers said was an inexperienced driver with a learner’s permit, had the vehicle drift onto the berm. He attempted to serve left to get back onto the road, but over-corrected, and the Envoy spun counter-clockwise 80 degrees, sliding across both travel lanes. The Envoy went into the woods and snapped off a tree, spinning an additional 90 degrees before coming to rest.
Devere-Malave and passengers Cherise F. Debooth, 53, of Allentown, and a baby in a child safety seat, were all not injured. The Envoy was towed. Mahanoy City ambulance, fire and police assisted at the scene.
Devere-Malave was cited for the crash.
• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 9:59 a.m. on July 23 along Grier Avenue in Delano Township. Troopers said George R. Hartz, 64, of Frackville, was driving a 2002 Pontiac Sunfire southbound, when he became distracted. The vehicle left the roadway on the right side striking a traffic sign. Hartz was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.
He was cited for the crash.
Troopers reported a crash occurred at 5:39 p.m. on July 24 along Route 443 in East Brunswick Township. Troopers identified the drivers involved as Carl K. Schleicher, 84, of Lehighton, and Tonya L. Snoke, 29, of Schuylkill Haven, and her passengers as two girls, ages 3 and 4. No one was injured.
Details of the crash were not released by troopers.
