State police report on Monroe County crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on the following crashes investigated by troopers on Monroe County roadways:

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:59 a.m. on July 11 along Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township. Troopers said Israel Rodriguez, 32, of Plymouth, Luzerne County, was driving a 2009 Dodge Avenger westbound at about 80 mph when he lost control due to driving too fast for conditions. The vehicle went onto the north berm and traveled about 500 feet before hitting with a tree.

Rodriguez was injured and taken to the Geisinger Medical Center, Plains Township, Luzerne County. The vehicle had to be towed.

Troopers cited Rodriguez for the crash.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 12:08 a.m. on July 9 along I-80 in Tunkhannock Township, Monroe County. Rodney E. Jones, 61, of Delavan, Wisconsin, was driving a 1992 Toyota Camry eastbound when he was distracted and looking at his phone GPS. The vehicle went off the road, struck a ditch and overturned before coming to a final rest.

Jones and his passenger, Shelly Monroe, 55, same address, were not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

• A crash was reported at 8:50 p.m. on July 9 along Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County. Justin R. Hudson, 19, of Effort, was driving a 2003 Toyota Sequoia southbound and was going around a left curve when he lost control. The vehicle began to slide, crossing over the double yellow line and then over an embankment along the berm, striking a tree. Hudson sustained a minor injury and was taken by West End ambulance to the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Pocono Campus, East Stroudsburg.

Hudson was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• Police investigated a two-vehicle crash at 12:54 p.m. July 14 on Running Valley Road in Jackson Township. No one was injured.

Police said a 2015 Chevrolet Colorado driven by Christopher Maldarelli, 45, of Stroudsburg, was westbound when the operator attempted to pass a 2017 Ford Model T operated by Bary N. Sanchez, 49, of Yonkers, New York. Police said the pass was unable to be done safely and the Colorado struck the Model T. The Colorado needed to be towed from the scene.
