Hazleton state police report on crashes

State police at Hazleton reported on the following crashes:

• A Carbon County driver was involved in a one-vehicle crash in Luzerne County in which he was injured and also cited.

State police at Hazleton said Robert J. Ruppert, 23, of Lehighton, was driving a 2013 Hino truck eastbound on Tannery Road in Foster Township at 10:07 a.m. on July 15 at a unsafe speed. The truck left the road and went onto the berm where the front end struck a utility pole. The truck then continued off the road and overturned onto its passenger side, went down a hill, and came to final rest on its passenger side facing northeast.

Ruppert was entrapped and had to be removed from the truck by rescue personnel using mechanical means. He sustained a suspected minor injury and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Hazleton. The road was closed in all directions for about nine and a half hours until PPL repair crews could replace the damaged pole and wires.

Ruppert was cited for the crash, troopers said.

• Two people were injured, one seriously, in a crash along Route 93, at the intersection with Quakake Road, in Packer Township, Carbon County, that occurred at 10:52 a.m. on July 16, and involved a U.S. Army vehicle.

State police at Hazleton said a 16-year-old woman from Hazleton, driving a 2017 Toyota Rav4, was on Quakake Road and was unable to proceed safely across Route 93 and was struck by a U.S. Army vehicle. After impact the teen lost control of her car and collided into the guide rail on the right side of the road.

The teen suffered serious injuries and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital-Cedar Crest by Mahoning Valley ambulance. Her passenger, Hector M. Genao, 59, also of Hazleton, was injured and also taken to LVH. The driver of the Army truck, Deshawn Cruz, 23, of Easton, was not injured.

The teen was cited for stop signs and yield signs.
