Carbon County court
A Carbon County man was sentenced to time served on two criminal cases on Friday in the county court.
He was one of three defendants who previously pleaded guilty to criminal charges to be sentenced by Judge Joseph J. Matika.
Palmerton incident
Jared Behler, 20, of Palmerton, was sentenced to time-served (135 days) to 23 months in prison on a charge of criminal trespass.
Prior to being sentenced he entered a guilty plea in another pending case to one count of receiving stolen property. In that case he was placed on probation for a year, concurrent wit the first case.
In the trespass case he was charged by Palmerton police for an incident on June 1, 2019. Originally charged with six counts, in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office, charges of burglary, two counts theft, receiving stolen property, all felony three charges; and defiant trespass, a misdemeanor, were dropped. He was arrested on the receiving charge by state police at Lehighton for an incident on June 30, 2019. In that case two counts of theft were dropped in a plea deal.
He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, render 75 hours of community service, supply a DNA sample, make total restitution in both cases of $1,140 and have no contact with the victims.
Behler is currently an inmate in the county prison, serving a probation violation sentence which runs to Aug. 26. Matika ruled his sentence would run concurrent to the violation term.
Other cases
Tanner Brian Titus,
22, of Weatherly, was placed on probation for two years on a charge of theft.
He was charged by state police at Hazleton for stealing guns from the home of his father.
Titus admitted to a drug problem and said he is addressing it outlining the treatment he had received to date in his fight to free himself of the addiction.
Matika told him, “You took the bull by the proverbial horns and pulled it to the ground.”
Titus was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 100 hours of community service.
Thomas Peter Grabko,
19, of Kunkletown, was sentenced to serve 30 to 60 days in jail on a charge of driving while under suspension - DUI related; but must serve the full 60 days, and pay a fine of $500. On a charge of possession of a small amount of marijuana, he was fined $100.
He was arrested on June 24, 2018, by rangers at Beltzville State Park following an incident in a parking lot along Trachsville Hill Road in Towamensing Township. He was originally charged with 12 counts. Ten counts were dropped in a plea deal.
He will begin serving the sentence on Aug. 21 at 7 p.m. and serve it on consecutive two-day weekends.
Kaitlyn Jane Hill,
31, of Lehighton, was placed on probation for six months on a charge of hindering apprehension.
She was arrested on July 19, 2018, by sheriff deputies for an incident along Stock Street in Nesquehoning. The deputies were serving a warrant on boyfriend and Hill interfered with the service of the warrant. Matika said she made a stupid mistake as she spent 200 days in jail on the charge unable to post bail.
He also ordered her to render 25 hours of community service.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
