Stroia earns early admission to medical school

Marian Catholic High School announces that senior Lucca Stroia has been notified of his acceptance to the early admission program at Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine. The early acceptance guarantees Stroia a spot at the medical school once he completes his undergraduate studies at an affiliated college. Stroia has selected Kutztown University as his choice for undergraduate studies.

LECOM is the largest medical school in the U.S. Once accepted for the early admission program, students must maintain a certain GPA in college to continue to the medical school and are exempt from admission exams. Over 7,000 students apply annually with approximately 1,500 interviewed; only 5% of students are accepted into this program.

The son of Mary Pat and Dr. Luciano Stroia of Hazle Township, Stroia is the 2020 Schuylkill County Marian Catholic Scholar Athlete and a Principal’s Scholar - Academic Top 10 - at Marian Catholic High School. He is in the honors curriculum and has dual enrollment credits with Lehigh Carbon Community College. He is a member of the National Honor Society, French Honor Society and the SAT Scholars Club. He is the Senior Class Secretary-Treasurer, a member of the Student Council, FBLA, and had a poem published in the 2019 Rising Stars Collection. Stroia was on the Marian Homecoming Court and was an award winner in the Marian Catholic Talent Show.

Stroia volunteers at the Hazleton One Center, Communities that Care-Hazleton Integration Project, is a Eucharistic Minister, is a member of the Young Republicans of Luzerne County, and is an Eagle Rock Resorts Double Diamond ski instructor.

Stroia was a three-year starter and a three-year letterman, played offense and was the special team kicker/punter for the Marian Colts football team. He was also team captain his senior year.

Stroia was selected to the Schuylkill County All-Star Team, the Schuylkill County Football Coaches Assn. North 1st Team, the Standard Speaker All-Area 1st Team, the Republican Herald All-Area 2nd Team, and an honorable mention to Eastern PA Football Class A. Stroia ranked #13 in the 2018-2019 PA All-Division field goal competition. Stroia was selected to compete in the Big 33 Football Classic Specialist Contest. He also participated in baseball, basketball, lettered in golf, and played on the Cantolao Soccer Club and the Greater Hazleton Youth Soccer Team.

“I am honored to have been selected for early admission to medical school at LECOM and look forward to continuing my academic and athletic career at Kutztown University before attending medical school. My time at Marian has helped to prepare me in many ways - academically, athletically, and spiritually - and has been like a family to me,” said Stroia.
