Florida man charged with methamphetamine DUI

A Florida man has been charged with possession of methamphetamine following a traffic stop in Carbon County.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by trooper Mark Bower of the Pennsylvania State Police, Troop N, Lehighton barracks against Michael Cambria, 32, of Hollywood:

At 12:30 a.m. July 5, Bower was traveling east on Route 443 when he saw a blue sedan traveling in front of him.

Bower noticed the vehicle did not have a properly lit rear passenger side taillight, and saw it make a left-hand turn onto Route 209 without using the turn signal.

Bower noticed the vehicle had a Florida registration plate, and initiated a traffic stop at the intersection of Route 209 and Bridge Street in Lehighton.

The driver, Cambria, put up the window, and cracked it when Bower approached. He gave him a Florida driver’s license.

Bower noticed his erratic mannerisms, as Cambria was talking to himself and yelling at his phone.

Cambria was videotaping Bower with his cellphone. Cambria also had a very dry mouth and was clenching his fists and grinding his teeth.

Bower asked Cambria to step out of the vehicle. He declined, but then changed his mind and got out of the car.

Cambria had trouble standing still. He showed multiple signs of impairment consistent with methamphetamine use.

Cpl. Shawn Noonan assisted on scene as Bower then requested Cambria to submit to a DRE, but he refused and said he was going back to Florida and could not provide Bower with a valid mailing address.

Bower then requested Cambria to a blood test, but Cambria refused.

Cambria faces charges of driving under the influence of alcohol or controlled substance and traffic violations.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $10,000, 10 percent monetary bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
