W. Penn to review fireworks ordinance following complaints

Amid a series of complaints, West Penn Township plans to take a closer look at its fireworks ordinance.

Supervisors on Monday discussed the township’s current ordinance, and asked board solicitor Paul J. Datte to see if there’s anything the township can come up with.

After the meeting, board Chairman Tony Prudenti told a reporter that the board is reviewing its fireworks ordinance based on complaints.

“Our chief of police said we had over a dozen complaints,” Prudenti said. “The state has changed laws on it.”

Prudenti added, “People are allowed illegally to set off bigger fireworks, which is causing a bit of an issue in our township.”

He said that while some of it is being taken care of by the state, the township needs to be proactive in its stance.

“We’re kicking around what we can do to protect our residents,” he said. “We just need to implement the state laws into our ordinance so our local police can take care of it.”
