Effort man charged with attacking father

An Effort man has been charged with attacking his father.

On June 18 at 9:49 p.m. state police at Fern Ridge responded to the 1100 block of Parish Park, Chestnuthill Township, for a domestic dispute.

While en route troopers encountered a 39-year-old man, from Effort, Anthony John McCullough walking along Toll Road.

McCullough said he became angry with his father, a 55-year-old man, which led to a physical altercation. McCullough said he jumped on his father, who had been lying in bed, and began choking him. He said he then released his father’s neck and struck him in the head several times with a closed fist.

The father was interviewed and confirmed what the son had told troopers. He said he did lose his breath and did struggle to breathe during the incident and that his son struck him in the head repeatedly before he was able to call 911.

As a result troopers charged the son with strangulation, reckless endangerment, simple assault and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned on the charges and committed to the county prison in Snydersville after failing to post bail. Bail was set at $20,000.
