PV discusses need for new hires, wrestling options

Panther Valley Athletic Director Kristin Black addressed the school board Monday regarding stadium-related business.

Black said Panther Valley is in need of another sport event manager due to the increased number of responsibilities the position demands.

The new manager would help oversee all operations related to games, supervise ticket takers/ticket sellers and scoreboards, help direct payments, and be in charge of all home events as well as anything else asked of the athletic director.

“I’m hoping that whoever we get in here can help me with games, because I am here every single night with games,” Black said. “That would be a break if we can get someone to help me work one or two nights a week.”

Black is also considering purchasing a washer and dryer to wash football uniforms as the costs to get them professionally done are higher than Black and other team members feel is necessary. The board will make a motion to accept the purchase after Black receives a quote for the machines.

All varsity coaches get a $50 raise per year, and assistant coaches get a $25 raise per year.

Wrestling

Treasurer William Mansberry asked if there were any options for Panther Valley students who would like to wrestle. Since the district’s wrestling program has been canceled, Mansberry wanted to know if the students could wrestle elsewhere.

Black said she has talked with Lehighton about Panther Valley kids having the option to wrestle for them. The board will hold off on voting until she receives numbers for how much that would cost the district.
