Kindness is alive and well

After four at-home days, the car needed a run; so I took a ride from Jim Thorpe to Lehighton’s Dollar Tree for an $8 purchase.

In a “senior moment” I forgot to put the $10 bill in my wallet. Every item was in my duffel bag, except no $10 bill to pay for it - only $3.

Embarrassed, and two ladies waiting, I said just take out five items. All masked, the checkout lady was in a quandary as to what to do. The second lady stepped “up to the plate” of my dilemma and said, “I’m paying for it,” and put her credit card in. Done, paid!

I had said no, no, and she said yes, yes. Can I at least give you $3? No to that.

Shocked, all I could do was to say, “God Bless You.” I do not know this sweet, good, young woman. Exiting as I turned back to look at her, she gently said, “Have a good day,” to which I responded, “Be well.”

In the spike of this intense COVID crisis and all, KINDNESS, as with this young woman, is alive and well in Carbon County.

I shall never forget her and hope she gets to read this, as my thanks goes out to her again.
