Carbon County court

A Schuylkill County woman entered a guilty plea on Monday in Carbon County court to a felony 3 count of fleeing or attempting to elude police.

She was one of four defendants in pending criminal cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

25, of McAdoo, also pleaded to one count of unauthorized use of an automobile, a felony 2. Originally charged with 16 counts, the district attorney’s office agreed to drop 14 criminal counts, including misdemeanor counts of fleeing or eluding and possession of a controlled substance and 12 summary motor vehicle code violations.

She was arrested on March 14, 2019, by Weatherly police, who attempted to stop her along West Main Street for speeding. She refused to stop and led police on a chase in which speeds reached 70 to 90 mph before she finally stopped.

She is currently an inmate in the county prison.

On the fleeing charge, Matika sentenced her to time-served (six days) to one year in jail, and on the second count one year probation, with the terms running concurrently to each other and concurrent to a sentence she is serving in Luzerne County.

She was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment, supply a DNA sample and render 50 hours of community service.

Other pleas

Jill Grover,

42, of Weatherly, pleaded to one count of theft. She was charged by state police at Hazleton for stealing medications of a friend on or about July 21, 2019, at a residence in Packer Township.

Matika placed her on probation for a year, concurrent with a sentence she is serving in Schuylkill County, and ordered her to get a drug and alcohol evaluation, supply a DNA sample and render 50 hours of community service.

Michael Scott O’Brian,

53, of Weissport, pleaded to one count of harassment, as a summary offense. In exchange for the plea the DA’s office dropped misdemeanor counts of simple assault and terroristic threats.

He was arrested by Franklin Township police on June 5, 2019, following a domestic dispute with his wife.

He was fined $150.

Christopher Paul Scott,

27, of Albrightsville, pleaded to one count of accidents involving damage to attended vehicle or property.

He was arrested on Nov. 30, 2019, by Kidder Township police for an incident at Birchwood and Larch roads. He as involved in a hit-and-run crash and fled the scene, later arrested.

His plea was done by video conference from the Monroe County prison where he is an inmate on pending charges.

Matika placed him on probation for six months and ordered he get a drug and alcohol evaluation and have no contact with the victim in the crash.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
