A Monroe County man entered a guilty plea in Carbon County court on Monday to a charge of aggravated assault by vehicle, a felony 3, for a crash in which a passenger was seriously injured.
Preston Alan Wolbert, 22, of East Stroudsburg, also pleaded to one count of recklessly endangering another person, a misdemeanor 2, for a crash on July 27, 2018.
In exchange for the plea the district attorney’s office dropped a more serious charge of aggravated assault by vehicle while driving under the influence, a felony 2, as well as counts of DUI and four summary motor vehicle code violations. It was indicated at the proceeding that the DA’s office was unable to prove the DUI charges.
The crash occurred at Route 443 and Mill Road. A male passenger in the vehicle suffered injuries and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest.
Judge Joseph J. Matika, who accepted the pleas, deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
