Carbon County court — drug cases

A woman pleaded guilty in Carbon County court on Monday to a drug dealing charge and was sentenced to time-served.

She was one of five defendants in pending drug-related cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Alainna Marie Bunch,

40, who said her current address is in the Carbon County prison, pleaded to one count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, methamphetamine, a felony. She was originally charged with nine criminal counts. In exchange for the plea the district attorney’s office agreed to drop two more PWID felony counts, a felony criminal use of a communication facility along with three counts of possession of a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia, all misdemeanors.

Bunch was arrested on Nov. 7, 2018, by agents of the state attorney general’s office following a controlled buy in which she sold meth to a confidential informant. The sale occurred at a location in Kidder Township.

Bunch has been in the county prison for an extended period of time on the charges.

Matika sentenced her to time-served (359 days) to one day less 24 months in prison and ordered her to get to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations and follow any recommendations for treatment, supply a DNA sample and render 50 hours of community service when paroled.

Other pleas

Richard Charles Glass Jr.,

29, of Slatington, pleaded to one count each of possession of a controlled substance, heroin, and possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange for the pleas the district attorney’s office dropped a felony count of possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.

Glass was arrested on Jan. 8, 2019, as the result of an ongoing investigation by the county’s drug task force and local police. The arrest occurred along Delaware Avenue in Palmerton. The police report indicated the task force received information that Glass was selling drugs in the county.

On the first count Matika placed Glass on probation for two years and on the second count one year probation, with the terms running concurrent to each other and concurrent to a sentence he is serving in Northampton County.

He was also ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 75 hours of community service.

Kenneth J. Shafer,

31, of Lehighton, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange for the plea the DA’s office dropped a charge of possession of a controlled substance.

He was arrested on Jan. 7, 2019, by Palmerton police along Delaware Avenue. Methamphetamine was the drug involved.

He was placed on probation for a year, concurrent with a probation period he is currently on in another case, and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

Dennis Ricky Guerreiro,

32, of Kearny, New Jersey, pleaded to one count of possession of paraphernalia. He was arrested on Oct. 25, 2018, along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township by state police at Fern Ridge following a traffic stop.

He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to render 25 hours of community service.

Joshua Michael Bertalan,

24, of Bowmanstown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on March 9, 2019, by state police at Lehighton along Little Gap Road in Lower Towamensing Township following a traffic stop for speeding.

He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.

He also pleaded to driving under suspension and was fined $200.

Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
