Fire department re-roofing project to cost $212,500

A re-roofing project at the Franklin Township Fire Department will cost $212,500.

Supervisors unanimously agreed on Tuesday to approve a bid in that amount from to do the project.

The board’s decision comes one month after it agreed to table the sole bid in that amount after it was stated that the project came in higher than anticipated.

Township fire Chief Lynn Diehl said at that time the fire department previously received an estimate of $187,000 to do the work.

The fire company has a $150,000 LSA grant in its possession.

In addition to the roof, other work has been discussed for the building. There are moisture issues inside the building, and work would be done to the walls, the interior, and new garage doors for the firetrucks.

Diehl said the anticipated cost for everything is about $300,000, adding that the department would have to put up at least $50,000 from its savings, and then loan at least another $100,000.
