Lehighton Downtown Summer Farmers Market to kick off season Saturday

Sunny skies figure to accompany the kickoff of the 2020 Lehighton Downtown Summer Farmers Market.

All of the elements appear to be in place for a successful opening day for the event, which will be held from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday in the borough’s Lower Park.

However, patrons will be certain to notice some differences for the first few weeks of the event, as social distancing will still be in place, according to Bambi Elsasser, treasurer of the Lehighton Downtown Initiative.

“Hopefully we can be back to our normal setup in a few weeks,” Elsasser said. “Right now, we will be following all of the state guidelines to keep everyone safe.”

Elsasser stressed the need for patrons to be sure to wear their masks at the event, and noted that all their favorite farmers and vendors will be on hand, as well as some new vendors.

“Remember, our market is all homegrown, homemade and handmade,” she said. “The farmer or vendor you see at the market is the originator of the products being sold.”

Elsasser urged patrons to support the local farmers and businesses, adding that they will also be supporting the community and its services.

She said they would like to attract farmers or vendors with specialty products, though as of now, they can only accept essential items such as food products and such.

Elsasser said those who grow or make any of those items and would like to sell at the market should call 610-509-6465.

The event will continue to run from 9 a.m. to noon Saturdays in the Lower Park through October.

Elsasser expressed her gratitude to the Hofford Mill, which twice hosted the Lehighton Downtown Winter Farmers Market.

“We would like to give a huge shout out to the Hofford Mill for hosting us the past two markets,” she said. “We really appreciate your hospitality.”
