Carbon man admits driving drunk, causing serious injuries in crash

A Carbon County man pleaded guilty in the county court on Monday to driving drunk and causing serious injuries to a couple.

John Henry Boyd, 57, of Jim Thorpe, pleaded guilty before Judge Joseph J. Matika to one count each of aggravated assault by vehicle while DUI, a felony 2, DUI and simple assault.

Boyd was charged by state police at Lehighton following a crash on April 7, 2019, along Interchange Road at Rock Road in Franklin Township. Troopers said Boyd’s vehicle struck a motorcycle causing serious injuries to the driver and passenger.

Boyd submitted to a test with the result being 0.14 BAC.

Matika deferred sentencing and ordered the adult probation office to prepare a presentence investigation report.
