Why is your mother or wife your hero?

In honor of Mother’s Day, we asked readers, “Why is your mom/wife your hero?”

Here are some of their answers:

Elena Lomanto-Hartranft of Lansford: “My mom was my hero. She always put herself before others. Her family was everything. She not only was my mom, she was my best friend until the day she passed. I lost my mom 10 years ago to four types of cancer. She fought a very hard battle and you would have never known she was sick. Always a smile on her face. I miss her so much. I love you so much mom.”

Susan Bamford: “My mom is my hero because, although she resides in Heaven, she was an angel on earth. She taught me that family was everything and materialistic things didn’t matter. The bond and love between family would get you through any storm you encountered and be there to celebrate when the sun shines as well. She was an amazing woman.”

Jeni Grimes: “My mom is my hero because no matter what tragedies she faced she continuously stood strong for her children. No matter what paths we chose she stood by our side in support. Even though we now live 2600-plus miles apart, she’s still my number one supporter and I couldn’t ask for a better mom. I’m truly blessed.”

Brittany Cunfer: “My mom is and always will be my hero! She has been there for me through many happy and sad times. I’m so thankful for her.”

Ryan Saunders of Lehighton: “My wife is my hero because early on in our relationship she accepted the challenge of becoming stepmom to my two boys and that was no easy task. Having an additional child of our own, she dedicated herself to being the best mom for our family while running her business and volunteering around the community to help make our town a better place for all families.”

Stephanie Montgomery of Dushore: “My mom is my hero because no matter what, she was there for me. She was a single parent and I was far from being an easy child. As an adult when I had gotten myself into drugs, she was there. She helped me get clean and be the best single parent that I can be for my children. Without her, I would never have been able to become the woman I am today.”

Brandy Bamford: “My mom is my hero because she has always been there since day one! There isn’t a time- day or night- where I can’t pick up the phone if I need her. She is kind, loving and caring toward all. Her kind spirit radiates and I hope that one day I could be a great mother to my children as she was to her own. I love you mom.”

Maria Rehrig of Coaldale: “My mother is my hero because she has overcome all obstacles in her life. She was given test after test from the universe throughout her entire life including her childhood, marriage and motherhood - and I never made it easy for her growing up. But despite all of the curveballs life has thrown at her, she has grown into a strong and independent woman and I could not be more proud of her for that. She would truly do anything for her children, and I hope she knows that I would do anything for her in return.”

Kirsti Coghlan: “My mom is my hero. She has been our mother, father and best friend all rolled into one. As a 77-year-old old in the midst of COVID, she is the one running errands and taking her friends to their medical appointments. To sum her up: feisty, fierce and fearless.”

Dora Liberto had a different Mother’s Day hero: “My daughter is her boy’s hero. She has been there to protect her boys from everything, and going through tough times she always holds herself together. She is an amazing 30-year-old mother of three.”
