Carbon County court — ARD
Nine first-time offenders in the criminal justice system were placed in Carbon County’s Accelerated Rehabilitation Disposition probation program on Thursday by Judge Joseph J. Matika.
The proceedings were held under guidelines set for the COVID-19 pandemic with social distancing strictly observed and all wearing protective masks.
If a person successfully completes all conditions of the program, their record will be wiped clean. However, if they fail to complete it, or are revoked from it, then they would face trial on all pending charges. A person does not admit guilt in entering the program.
All were placed for a year on driving under the influence charges.
Thomas Jon Ahn,
38, of Pottsville, was arrested on Aug. 2, 2019, by state police at Lehighton.
He was assessed $650 for the cost of the program and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.
Bradlee James Clewell,
32, of Palmerton, was arrested on June 12, 2018, by state police at Lehighton.
He was assessed $650 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.
He was also placed for six months on a persistent disorderly conduct charge filed by Weatherly police for an incident on July 5, 2018. He was ordered to render an additional 25 hours of community service with the term consecutive to the DUI case.
Thomas James Dein,
20, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Dec. 22, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge.
He was assessed $550 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 90 days.
Gloria A. Dominic,
62, of Lansford, was arrested on May 17, 2019, by Nesquehoning police.
She was assessed $650 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 60 days.
Brenda Fiorani,
50, of Freeland, was arrested on Nov. 8, 2019, by state police at Fern Ridge.
She was assessed $550 and ordered to render 25 hours of community service and her license was suspended for 30 days.
Mark Jacob Lopata,
24, of Nesquehoning, was arrested on Jan. 3 by Nesquehoning police.
He was assessed $600 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.
Kristina Marie Samfilippo,
26, of Weatherly, was arrested on Nov. 5, 2019, by stat police at Lehighton.
She was assessed $450 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service.
Brian Steiner,
54, of Croyton, Bucks County, was arrested on July 26, 2019, by Lehighton police.
He was assessed $650 and ordered to render 50 hours of community service and his license was suspended for 60 days.
Each defendant must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while in the program.
