St. Joseph Parish to hold May Procession

St. Joseph Parish of the Panther Valley is bringing Jesus and Mary to its parishioners this weekend.

The Summit Hill church, which consists of the communities of Summit Hill, Lansford, Coaldale and Nesquehoning, has announced it will hold a May Procession as part of the parish’s annual May Crowning on Sunday.

The event will begin at 8 a.m. Mass, where the Rev. Allen Hoffa will do the May Crowning. The Mass will be livestreamed on the parish’s Facebook page, as well as air on 1410 am WLSH.

“Since we won’t be able to gather together in church for this important Mass, we are coming to the four towns that comprise our parish,” church officials said on its Facebook page.

The procession will begin at the church at noon with praying the Angelus. It will then process through the four towns before ending at 4 p.m.

The procession will start in Summit Hill and travel through the town and down into the White Bear. It will then head to Lansford for approximately 12:50 p.m.; Coaldale at 1:45 p.m. and Nesquehoning, New Columbus and the Hauto Valley Estates at approximately 2:45 p.m.

Parishioners are asked to place a statue of the Blessed Mother in their front window or on the lawn with flowers between noon and 4 p.m. and when the procession passes, ring a bell if possible.

The church reminds parishioners they should not congregate with others during the procession so that they continue to follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention social distancing guidelines.

A map of the procession route in each town can be found at www.stjscatholicchurch.org.

Any photos or videos taken of the procession can be shared on the parish’s Facebook page or emailed to webmastersjpv@gmail.com.
