State police at Hazleton are investigating an animal cruelty incident in Luzerne County.
Troopers said at 1:36 p.m. Wednesday they responded to an area near the intersection of Hayes and E. 13th streets., Hazle Township, for a report of a deceased dog. After further investigation, it appeared that the dog may have suffered blunt force trauma near the head. Troopers found the dog wrapped in two garbage bags, a blanket and a flattened air mattress.
A canvas of the neighborhood revealed the dog may have been dropped off sometime between 8 and 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The dog appears to be light brown American pit bull terrier, possible mix breed, with white markings on the chest, feet and paws. The dog was taken to the Wilkes-Barre SPCA for further examination.
