Heffley cancels sportsmen’s and outdoor expo

Due to the ongoing health crisis, Rep. Doyle Heffley, R-Carbon, today announced that his annual Sportsmen’s and Outdoor Expo has been canceled.

The event had been scheduled to take place on May 9 at the Penn Forest Township Volunteer Fire Co. No. 1 in Jim Thorpe.

“Our expo has grown into a popular community event and my staff and I enjoy hosting it every year,” said Heffley. “We made the decision to cancel due to safety concerns surrounding the COVID-19 health crisis. It is just not the right time to schedule an event like this. We look forward to seeing everybody at next year’s expo.”

The free event usually features more than 30 exhibitors and is attended by hundreds of people interested in learning more about the vast recreational opportunities available in the region.

The expo included a hunter/trapper education course for first-time hunters and children ages 11 and up, sponsored by the Pennsylvania Game Commission. The class is still available online by visiting www.pgc.state.pa.us and clicking on the “Coronavirus-related Cancellations” tab.
