Two Northampton Community College students were named 2020 Coca-Cola Academic Team Scholars.

Laura Rex of Walnutport is a 2020 Coca-Cola Academic Team Gold Scholar recipient along with Danielle Hanson of Nazareth, a 2020 Coca-Cola Academic Team Silver Scholar. This program is sponsored by the Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation and is administered by Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society.

The Coca-Cola Scholars Foundation sponsors the Coca-Cola Academic Team program, supporting two-year community colleges by recognizing 50 Gold, 50 Silver and 50 Bronze Scholars with over $230,000 in scholarships annually. Gold Scholars receive scholarships in the amount of $1,500, Silver Scholars are awarded $1,250, and Bronze Scholars are given $1,000 in scholarship money. The recipients are also given a commemorative medallion. Students are nominated for the academic team by their college administrators. Selection is based on academic achievement, leadership, and engagement in college and community service. Rex and Hanson were chosen based on scores they earned in the All-USA Academic Team competition, for which more than 2,000 applications were received this year.
