Walmart, ShopRite limit customers

Walmart is now limiting the number of customers who can be in a store at once. Stores will now allow no more than five customers for each 1,000 square feet at a given time, roughly 20 percent of a store’s capacity.

Customers can enter one-by-one and are counted. Associates and signs remind customers of the importance of social distancing while they’re waiting to enter a store - especially before it opens in the morning.

Once a store reaches its capacity, customers will be admitted inside on a “one-out-one-in” basis.

Inside the store, one-way movement will be directed through the aisles so customers can avoid close contact.

When customers check out, they will be directed to exit through a different door than they entered, which should help lessen the instances of people closely passing each other.

The company is expanding paid leave policies for employees, according to its website.

The store is closing overnight for cleanings and restocking, installing sneeze guards and social distance markers in stores, beginning temperature checks and making gloves and masks available to associates who want them.

ShopRite

ShopRite of Brodheadsville is also limiting the number of customers allowed in the store.

The company asks people to limit the number of trips to the store to once per week, and limiting trips to one person, unless they are required for assistance.

A designated entrance and exit has been created with a security guard who will track the number of customers entering and leaving the building.

Once the store is at capacity, customers will be asked to wait in a designated area.

The busiest hours are from 7 to 11 a.m. To avoid lines, customers can shop at off-peak hours.
