Traffic stop leads to drug arrests

A vehicle stop in Monroe County led to the arrest of two New Jersey residents.

State police at Fern Ridge said troopers conducted a vehicle stop at 1:39 p.m. on March 24 along Interstate 80 westbound in Tunkhannock Township.

The driver was identified as Jaime Vargas, 30, of Patterson. It was determined he was driving with a suspended license. Throughout the stop a probable cause search of the vehicle was established.

Police found three bricks containing 148 baggies of heroin/fentanyl and a small amount of marijuana. As a result Vargas was charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and related charges.

His passenger, Carlos Burgos, 22, of Patterson, was found to have an active warrant for his arrest out of Passaic County, New Jersey, sheriff’s office for distribution of a controlled substance charge.

Both men were taken into custody and lodged in the county prison in Snydersville. Both men have since been released from the prison.
