STATE POLICE AT FRACKVILLE - CRASHES

State police at Frackville reported investigating the following crashes recently:

• Troopers said a crash was reported at 1:17 a.m. on March 3 in New Castle Township. Troopers said Charles P. Naradko, 25, of Port Carbon, was driving a 2006 Honda Odyssey southbound on Route 61 when he lost control of the vehicle. The Honda went onto the east berm and struck the guide rail causing disabling damages.

Troopers said Naradko showed signs of intoxication and was placed under arrest. He was transported to the Lehigh Valley Hospital East, Pottsville, for a blood draw. The DUI count is pending the test results.

• Also on March 3, at 2:21 p.m. a crash occurred along Route 54 in Mahanoy Township. Rita Boczkowski, 93, of Mahanoy City, was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt westbound when she said the car rotated 180 degrees counterclockwise striking the guide rail along the berm.

Boczkowski was not injured but the Cobalt had to be towed.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 6:06 a.m. on March 5 along Route 54, at the top of the Vulcan Hill in Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Michael P. Nagy, 41, of Elverson, Fayette County, was making a left turn when his 2012 Mack truck was struck in the rear by a 2015 Ford Escape driven by Susan M. Loftus, 61, of Mahanoy City. No one was injured. The Ford was towed.

Troopers cited Loftus for following too closely.

• A crash was reported at 2:12 p.m. on March 4 along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township. Troopers said Christopher M. Hamlett, 31, of Mahanoy City, and Troy L. Thompson, 47, of Pine Grove, were both northbound when Hamlett approached Thompson rapidly. The front of Hamlett’s 2008 Chrysler Aspen struck the rear of Thompson’s 2012 Cooper. After impact Thompson pulled to the side of the road but Hamlett accelerated northbound. Thompson then followed in an attempt to get the registration on Hamlett’s vehicle. At this point Hamlett swerved to the right with the front right corner and front tire of the Aspen striking the left rear corner and wheel of the Cooper. Both then came to the Mahanoy City exit. Thompson pulled over and call 911. Hamlett exited the interstate and fled the scene. Hamlett was later located. No injuries were reported and minor damages to the vehicles.

Hamlett is facing several citations, troopers said.

• A crash was reported on March 4 at 6:29 a.m. along I-81 in Mahanoy Township. Theodore P. Haumec, 63, of Columbia, Connecticut, was driving a 1985 Chevrolet Corvette southbound when a deer entered the road in front of him. Haumec swerved to avoid the animal and hit a ditch in the median that separates the north and southbound lanes. Haumec was not injured but the Corvette was towed.

State police at Frackville reported on two crashes investigated by troopers on Schuylkill County roads.

• A crash was reported at 6:16 a.m. on March 18 along Route 61 in Blythe Township. Troopers said Cassidy R. Long, 36, of Saint Clair, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Malibu southbound when the vehicle went off the road and struck an embankment along the berm. The car rolled over a half turn onto its roof and came to rest in the right lane.

There were no injuries. Long was cited for the crash. The vehicle was towed from the scene.

• A crash was reported at 8:02 a.m. on March 16 along Interstate 81 in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Juan Fran Sanchez Mejia, 48, of Freeland, Luzerne County, was driving a 2006 Kenworth tractor with trailer southbound and exiting the interstate at the Frackville exit. While on the off ramp the left side of the rig went off the road causing it to overturn onto the driver’s side in the grass median.

Sanchez Mejia was not injured. Troopers said tow crews worked for hours to empty the trailer portion before being able to get the tractor-trailer back on its wheels and tow it from the scene.

Sanchez Mejia was cited for the crash.
