Fern Ridge police report on crashes

State police at Fern Ridge reported on several recent crashes.

• A crash was reported about 5:02 p.m. Troopers said Maria L. Scott Goldson, 39, of Bushkill, was driving a 2011 Jeep Compass eastbound near the Blakeslee exit of Interstate 80 Monday and failed to negotiate a right hand curve due to driving too fast for conditions. The Compass went onto the berm and hit a tree. Scott Goldson was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.

She was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• Troopers responded to a crash at 5:08 p.m. Monday. Troopers said Richard M. Wiencek, 39, of Drums, Luzerne County, was driving a 2017 Toyota Sienna westbound on Interstate 80 when he failed to negotiate a right hand curve due to driving too fast for conditions. The vehicle left the road and impacted with an embankment. Wiencek was not injured but the vehicle had to be towed.

He was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• A third crash occurred at 3:52 p.m. Monday with Cheng Z. You, 24, of North Canton, Ohio, driving a 2011 Jaguar XJL westbound when his vehicle left the road and went down an embankment striking a tree with its undercarriage. You was not injured. The vehicle had to be towed.

He was driving for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• On Marh 16 troopers investigated a crash along Interstate 80 in Kidder Township, Carbon County, about 5:06 p.m. Troopers said Jovan R. Edwards, 44, of Paterson, New Jersey, was driving a 2008 Freightliner tractor with trailer eastbound. Edwards said he was in the right lane when another driver “cut him off” and turned abruptly from the left lane to the right lane. Edwards said he applied his brakes to avoid striking the other vehicle, but due to icy road conditions he lost control with tractor leaving the road and striking the guide rail and then into a group of trees.

Edwards sustained a minor injury and was taken to the Geisinger Wyoming Valley Hospital in Plains Township, Luzerne County, by Lake Harmony ambulance. The rig was towed. Troopers cited Edwards for the crash.

• Troopers reported investigating a three-vehicle crash about 6:03 p.m. on March 2 along Route 209 in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said vehicles operated by Dakota D. Mowery, 23, of Brodheadsville, Devin A. Cecil, 21, of Albrightsville, and Gabriella Fasanelli-Demaio, 37, of East Stroudsburg, were all eastbound. Cecil and Fasanelli-Demaio were stopped when Cecil’s 2014 Jeep Compass was struck in the rear by Mowery’s 2000 Hyundai Sonata, which pushed it into the rear of Fasanelli-Demaio’s 2012 Chrysler Town & Country van.

Mowery had a possible injury but refused medical treatment. The other two drivers were not injured. Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers of the West End Fire Company and EMS unit.

Troopers cited Mowery for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• Police reported investigating a two-vehicle crash at 9:24 a.m. on Feb. 28 along Route 209, at the exit/entrance of the ESSA bank in Chestnuthill Township, Monroe County.

Troopers said Joseph Hascin, 76, of Saylorsburg, operating a 2013 Nissan Sentra, failed to yield the right of way while exiting the bank lot. His vehicle was struck by a 2012 Toyota Prius operated northbound by Valerie J. Boucher, 78, of Stroudsburg. After impact the Prius left the road and struck trees, then overturned and came to final rest on the driver’s side doors.

Boucher was treated at the scene by West End ambulance personnel. Hascin was not injured.

Troopers cited Hascin for vehicle entering or crossing a roadway.
