On the request of County Treasurer Linda Marchalk, the Schuylkill County solicitor’s office will be filing a lien of $81,591 for unpaid hotel taxes against Econo Lodge, Frackville.

The Econo Lodge is owned by Shri Hari Krupa Associates. The unpaid taxes accrued from January 2009 through December 2018. Marchalk’s request was reviewed by the county commissioners during their workshop meeting Wednesday.

In another tax-related matter, the county approved a tax assessment settlement between the Minersville School District and Priya Holdings Inc. Allentown for the former Rothermel Dairy property on Sunbury Street. The school district and the property owner negotiated a settlement; the county defers to that decision, said solicitor Glenn Roth. Under the terms of the agreement, the fair market value of the property will be $950,000.

County Finance Director Paul Buber said that an endowment for county Parks and Recreation is $5,000 higher than anticipated in the 2020 budget. The money comes from the Schuylkill Area Community Foundation. In the budget, the county anticipated receiving $41,000 from the endowment, however earnings were higher, and the county will receive approximately $46,000, Buber said.
