Nesquehoning updates borough’s pandemic procedures

Nesquehoning officials have updated the borough’s plan with regards to slowing the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

On Monday, council President David Hawk released the following information regarding council meetings, borough operations and police enforcement. The actions will be ratified at a later meeting.

The regularly scheduled borough council meeting on March 25 is postponed until April 22, and the April 8 workshop and committees meeting has been canceled.

Hawk will continue approving payment of bills and payroll, as well as the emergency operations plan until the next meeting.

In addition, the borough is working to extend its emergency declaration as needed, and the mayor and police chief are working with the county district attorney’s office on what the borough police force is required to do or not do for enforcement of Gov. Tom Wolf’s nonessential business closure order.

Hawk also announced that the borough office is closed to the public, and any payments under borough business will not be accepted in any form. Payments could be made online, mailed in or dropped through a mail slot the borough recently installed. If using the mail slot, please refrain from using cash. Payment should be in an envelope with your account number on your check.

Borough office staff will be working condensed hours on a rotating schedule as a way to cut down on the number of people in the office at a time.
