LVHN gets conditional plan approval for part of project

The Carbon County Planning Commission last week gave conditional plan approval to one of two actions involving the proposed construction of a new Lehigh Valley Health Network hospital in Mahoning Township.

The commission reviewed a minor subdivision with the Oscar E. Beck Family Trust and LVHN regarding subdividing 34.57 acres into two lots at the north side of East Blakeslee Boulevard near the intersection of Troxell Road.

Ivan O. Meixell Jr., county planner, said in his review that there were areas of noncompliance with the Mahoning Township Land Development Ordinances, but noted they were minor and recommended conditional plan approval as long as the commission’s comments are addressed.

In a second land development review for LVH-Carbon Campus, Meixell outlined his findings, which included 22 items that needed to be addressed, including permits, and that the commission believes the site lies partially within a conical surface zone of the Carbon County Airport.

In addition, the archaeological survey report needs to be completed and the issue of the property being in the Clean and Green program needs to be addressed.

The commission made no recommendations on the plan, but will send its findings to Mahoning Township, LVHN and its engineer for future discussions.

LVHN is proposing to construct a two-story, 85,000-square-foot hospital, a two-story medical building, 345 parking spaces and heliport.
