Crashes reported in Schuylkill County

State police at Schuylkill Haven investigated several crashes in recent weeks:

• Police reported investigating a two-vehicle crash at 8:50 p.m. on March 6 along Route 61 in Deer Lake Borough.

Troopers said Christopher G. Mekosh, 25, of Pottsville, was northbound in the right lane and Melissa K. Cordero, 38, of Schuylkill Haven, was northbound in the left lane. Troopers said Mekosh attempted to make a left turn from the right lane with his 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee striking Cordero’s 2009 Volkswagen Routan. No one was injured. Troopers cited Mekosh for the crash.

• A Schuylkill County driver escaped injury in a one-vehicle crash that was reported at 3:11 p.m. on March 12 along East Maple Avenue in Norwegian Township.

Police said Edward L. Rich, 64, of Pottsville, was driving a 2010 Nissan Murano and using his cellular phone when his vehicle left the roadway and struck a utility pole. The Murano had to be towed. The pole sustained major damage and had to be replaced.

Troopers cited Rich for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• Troopers also investigated a crash on March 16 at 5:09 p.m. along Edgewood Road at East Maple Avenue, in Norwegian Township. Troopers said Austin H. Zukosky, 22, of Cressona, was driving a 2008 Subaru Impreza northbound and came to a stop at the intersection. The throttle on the vehicle became stuck open causing the Impreza to speed forward through the intersection. The vehicle went onto the north berm and struck a tree with its front left corner causing it to overturn onto its roof in the westbound lane of East Maple Drive.

Zukosky was not injured but the vehicle was towed. He was cited for driving with a suspended license.

• A crash was reported at 12:30 p.m. on March 10 along Swopes Valley Road in Pine Grove Township. Allison Weinus, 30, of Pine Grove, was driving a 2019 Jeep Renegade southbound on Geary Wolfer Road and made a left turn onto Swopes Valley Road. The Jeep crossed into the on coming lane of travel then struck a concrete barrier on a bridge with its front left corner, where it came to rest.

Weinus was treated at the scene for a minor injury by Pine Grove ambulance personnel. The Jeep was towed. Weinus was cited for driving a vehicle at a unsafe speed.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 12:49 a.m. on March 16 along Route 901 in Foster Township. Troopers said Samuel C. Wolfe, 32, of Fredericksburg, Lebanon County, was southbound when he fell sleep at the wheel of his 2013 Chevrolet Traverse. His vehicle drifted into the oncoming lane where Alvin D. Lemmon, 40, of Tremont, driving a 2015 Jeep Grand Cherokee. Lemmon was unable to avoid a collision. No one was injured but both vehicles had to be towed.

Troopers cited both drivers. Wolfe for the crash and Lemmon for driving with a suspended license.
