Carbon man pleads to sex-related charges

A Carbon County man, whose case has had 24 continuances, entered guilty pleas to charges of obscenity and possessing obscene material on Monday in the county court.

Gary Woodrow Bowman, 58, of Lehighton, entered the pleas before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

In exchange for the pleas, the district attorney’s office dropped felony counts of disseminating photos of child sex acts, child pornography and criminal use of a communication facility.

He was charged by state police at Lehighton in July 2015 with possessing at least 19 images of young girls in sexual situations.

Troopers got a tip in the case from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children. The alleged incidents occurred at a residence in Lansford.

Matika placed Bowman on probation for two years on each count, per the plea agreement, with the terms running consecutively. Bowman was also ordered to render a total of 200 hours of community service, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.
