With extreme measures in place, people are beginning to wonder if the upcoming election next month will go on or be delayed.
On Thursday, Commissioners’ Chairman Wayne Nothstein said that the County Commissioners Association of Pennsylvania sent a letter to Gov. Tom Wolf requesting that he delay the primary election. In Pennsylvania, lawmakers, not just the governor, must decide on whether or not an election can be postponed. To date, the Legislature has not acted on any measure.
“It’s going to create a lot of problems,” Nothstein said. “Not only with mail-ins, but with supplies and manpower.
“My fear is we don’t have enough to work the polls.”
The county said that as of Thursday, they have not heard anything about whether or not the state is planning on pushing back the primary.
Last week, Lisa Dart, elections director, told county officials that her office is still at a standstill because of the changes under Act 77 and noted that there have been a lot of mail-in applications.
That may only get worse as the election gets closer.
Nothstein said the county is hoping to hear if there will be alterations to the election in the near future.
