March 14, 1984 — Panther Valley approves the hiring of Joe Leonzi as football coach at its school board meeting. Leonzi, a Marian graduate and former Colts head coach, is approved by an 8-1 vote. The Hometown resident, who also coached for 10 years at Hamburg, replaces former PV mentor Gary Williams. Leonzi will spend four years with the Panthers and compile a record of 16-21-1, although his final season produces an impressive 9-2-1 mark.
