Schuylkill school districts respond to COVID-19

As COVID-19 continues to spread throughout Pennsylvania, Schuylkill County school districts are continuing to take precautionary measures.

Each Schuylkill County School District superintendent signed off on a letter to parents and guardians on Thursday. The letter stated, “The Schuylkill County Emergency Management Agency in consultation with the Pennsylvania Department of Health is actively working to plan and respond to the potential impact of Coronavirus COVID-19 with all county school districts ... Much remains unknown about COVID-19, including fatality rates. Early indications are that children are at a much lower risk of severe illness from COVID-19, and as with influenza, the elderly and those with immunosuppressive conditions are at a higher risk of severe illness.”

County emergency management and superintendents will continue to meet regularly to share information. Health and safety tips were shared on the letter.

“The County and all School Districts will continue to work collaboratively, proceeding with an abundance of caution, guided by the most current accurate information. We urge all residents of Schuylkill County to remain aware of the situation, follow recommendations for limiting potential infection and exercise good common sense. We want people in Schuylkill County to be aware of the situation but not panic.”
