Off-duty Philadelphia sheriff wounded, police seek suspects

YEADON (AP) — An off-duty Philadelphia deputy sheriff was in stable condition Wednesday after he was shot during an apparent robbery attempt.

The shooting occurred just before 10 p.m. Tuesday on Alfred Avenue in Yeadon.

The off-duty deputy was approached by two suspects when he got out of his vehicle, authorities said. As he tried to run off, authorities said he was shot once.

The suspects fled.

The deputy sheriff was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, where he was in stable condition.

Police were searching for the suspects.
