Man charged with assault after making threats with firearm
A Weissport man has been charged with assaulting another person who called police after being threatened with a firearm.
According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Chief Matthew Williams of Weissport Borough Police Department:
At 11:05 p.m. Jan. 28, Williams was waved down as he approached the area of Allen Street by the victim, who wanted to report that he had just been assaulted by Jeffrey Hosier, 51.
Upon speaking with the victim, he said that while sitting near the front porch in the 300 block of Bridge Street, Hosier came out and approached him and started calling him a “rat” and a “narc” due to the victim having summoned police to the home earlier in the evening when Hosier had allegedly threatened the victim with a firearm.
From there, the victim said that Hosier kicked him in the face and struck him several times in the left side of his mouth with closed fists, which caused injuries.
While speaking with the victim, Williams noticed he had blood on the inside and outside of the left side of his mouth, and he also showed him a bloody space in the upper left side of his mouth, where he said a tooth had been knocked out as a result of Hosier assaulting him.
At that time, the victim refused medical treatment, saying he would seek it on his own later.
After speaking with the victim, Williams again went to the address and announced a police presence and requested Hosier to come to the front door to speak with him.
However, no contact was made with Hosier, and Williams transported the victim back to the borough police station to document his injuries and provide him a written statement form.
Hosier faces charges of aggravated assault; retaliation against witness, victim or party; simple assault; and harassment.
He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $50,000 bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 18 before District Judge Eric M. Schrantz of Jim Thorpe.
