Lansford man faces charges on threats, DUI after crash

A Lansford man faces multiple charges after a Feb. 10 incident.

John D. Reis, 56, was charged with driving under the influence, terroristic threats, reckless driving, careless driving and disorderly conduct by Tamaqua police.

Police were dispatched to a crash on Pine Street where a sedan struck multiple vehicles and the driver was attempting to leave the scene.

Police saw the damage on scene and also witnessed a vehicle up against the curb with the driver-side door open.

Reis, who was sitting in the driver’s seat, was heard saying that he wanted to leave and was fumbling around with a pack of cigarettes.

When asked for his license, Reis handed police a cigarette. Reis could not come up with his license after three attempts.

Reis claimed he was in Lansford, but was also coming from Lansford.

Reis said he had about 12 drinks and was visibly swaying. Police smelled alcohol on his breath. He refused to perform field sobriety tests and police placed him under arrest.

Police transported him to St. Luke’s Miners Campus in Coaldale, and while en route, Reis said he wanted to kick the windows out of the vehicle. He screamed and yelled at the hospital and continued to be belligerent.

A Coaldale officer arrived on scene and Reis threatened him, and he also made threats to the Tamaqua officer.
