Palmerton church group makes, sends dresses

The Rev. William Campion, pastor of Sacred Heart Church in Palmerton, did a special blessing at the 9:30 a.m. Mass on Feb. 23 of little dresses that parishioners made as part of a project for the School Sisters of St. Francis in Bethlehem.

The project is known as “Little Dresses of Love.”

The dresses will be given to lay missionaries to be distributed in Peru, India, Slovakia, Haiti and Puerto Rico. Once dresses are given to the sisters at St. Francis Center for Renewal in Bethlehem they will go to Pittsburgh for distribution.

The dresses were sewn by Teresa Amorim, Carol Costenbader and Peg Duell. Fabric and trim was also donated by Carol Dickinson and Arline and Joanne Banas.

In addition, Lynn Luck of Effort, and Maryellen Potts-Hummer of Bath, have contributed dresses to be blessed.

At the Mass, 35 little dresses were blessed by the Rev. Campion. Many more have been previously made by women who attend Simply Prayer at the Renewal Center and shared with those in need. Simply Prayer is held the first Tuesday of each month from October to June at 9:30 a.m. and women of all denominations are welcome.

This project is a great example of women using their time, talent and treasure for the benefit of others.
