Weatherly school board OKs IT contract

The Weatherly Area School Board, at its February meeting, approved the contract with BRITEWISE for IT services.

New cafeteria tables were ordered at a cost of $33,814 from the building project’s contingency funds. This was approved 7-1, with Tom Connors Jr. opposed. The tables are bench style, and convertible for events and activities.

The 2020-21 school district calendar was approved. The first day for the students is Aug. 31. There are three snow makeup days if needed. The last day for students is a half day on June 4 if the weather cooperates and no more snow makeup days are needed.

In early February, the property committee did a walk-through of the construction being done with general contractor Quandel representatives. A service team from Trane was expected to be on property mid-month to adjust the HVAC system — some rooms are too hot and others too cold.

A request for representatives of Carbon Career & Technical Institute to come before the board about their next year’s budget was accepted, with the presentation expected at the work session meeting on March 4. Planning for the Weatherly’s budget for next year is expected to begin in mid-March.

Bills for the month totaled $716,079, plus $428,103 for the bond via PLGIT, $23,563 for the cafeteria and $6,548 for the student activities and athletic fund.

Attending the meeting were all school board members except Gerard Grega, Superintendent Teresa Young, business manager Natasha Milazzo (board secretary), solicitor Chris Slusser, and an audience of more than a dozen.

The next regular board meeting is March 11 in the middle school LGI room, beginning at 7 p.m. The public is welcome.
