Consider the consequences

As the local schools grovel for money for their athletic facilities from the incoming hospitals, I hope they consider the consequences to the taxpayers. Who is going to pay for the ongoing maintenance and replacement of the fields and courts as they wear out? The taxpayers?

Or will a fund be set aside to maintain and replace them in perpetuity? Would it be better to give funds to an established foundation (Carbon County Community Foundation, Lehighton Education and Athletic Foundation, etc.) which could hold onto the principal donation, grow it and distribute funds annually to supplement programs and decrease taxpayer subsidy of budgets?

Too often money is given/taken and spent on things that create more of a financial burden. Isn’t it better to use it in a perpetual way? Grow or maintain it, so as to create more giving and less burden in the future.

Warmest Regards,

Mike Everett
