Lansford teen charged as adult after stabbing

A Lansford teen has been charged as an adult after police said he stabbed a man during a fight after a robbery.

Eric Rodweller, 15, is charged in a Feb. 10 incident which included a robbery and a fight.

According to the affidavit of probable cause filed by Sgt. Shawn M. Nunemacher and Detective Josh Tom of the Lansford Police Department:

At 9:23 p.m. Feb. 10, the police department was dispatched to the 400 block of West Abbott Street for a report of a robbery.

Lansford police officer Anthony Campanell initially responded and talked to the alleged robbery victim. She said Rene Figueroa robbed her after she had agreed to sell Figueroa a PlayStation 4 gaming system for $200. Figueroa, 18, is facing robbery charges after he allegedly admitted to taking marijuana from the woman.

About 15 minutes after being dispatched for the robbery, Campanell received a report of a man who had been stabbed at least twice in the upper torso area and lost a lot of blood in the area of West Patterson Street. As the investigation progressed, it was found that the stabbing was also related to the robbery.

Police interviewed the Rodweller family at their home the night of the incident.

Officers spoke with Eric Rodweller, 15, his mother and his father.

Rodweller admitted that he did get into a fight with the victim over a robbery. He said once the fight started, he became extremely scared over the victim being a much older and bigger kid, and without realizing it he pulled out a knife and stabbed the victim at least twice.

Rodweller said he asked his friend to get him a garbage bag so he could dispose of his blood-covered hoodie sweatshirt.

He told police his father came to the scene and he then fled with his father in his black SUV and went home.

Rodweller said he cleaned off the knife that he had used to stab the victim.

Police found the white plastic garbage bag, which contained Rodweller’s sweatshirt.

They found the multicolored butterfly-style knife in his father’s dresser.

All evidence related to the stabbing was located inside the Rodweller’s residence in the 100 block of West Bertsch Street.

Police interviewed the stabbing victim at the Lehigh Valley Hospital - Cedar Crest two days later.

He said that Rodwellers, along with another person and Figueroa were all present and that he went with Figueroa and met up with the listed people to purchase a PlayStation.

The stabbing victim said that while he was standing with this group, Figueroa all of a sudden just took off running away from the group, and that with that happening suddenly, all others in one form or another either participated in assaulting him or just stood by and watched.

The victim said he was pinned down by another person, and Rodweller began to stab him in the center chest, chest/lung area and the outside heel of his foot.

The victim also had other defensive wounds on his right forearm and wrist areas from trying to block Rodweller’s assault with the knife. He said the attackers took his backpack.

The victim said the backpack was ransacked and emptied, and his cellphone was taken from him and destroyed. At some point, his shoes were removed.

Rodweller faces charges of robbery; aggravated assault; simple assault; tampering with or fabricating physical evidence; and recklessly endangering another person.

He is currently incarcerated in the Carbon County Correctional Facility in lieu of $250,000 monetary bail, and is scheduled to have a preliminary hearing March 4 before District Judge Casimir T. Kosciolek of Lansford.
