BANGOR (AP) — A Pennsylvania police chief was placed on unpaid leave after allegedly crashing his truck into a house and fleeing the scene.

Washington Township supervisors voted unanimously Wednesday to place Chief Scott Miller on unpaid leave until they are able to determine his future with the department.

The decision followed a number of residents demanding answers about a Jan. 6 crash involving Miller, who crashed his truck into a house on the way home from a local bar and then left the scene without notifying the homeowner.

The responding officers reported a faint odor of alcohol on Miller, according to District Attorney Terry Houck.

Residents called the situation a “black eye on the township” as they called for Miller to be held accountable for his actions at a town meeting Wednesday night.

Officials have hired labor attorney John Harrison to oversee the investigation into what happened.

Miller will not be allowed to perform any duties related to the department, nor will he be allowed into the building during his leave.

The department’s next highest ranking officer, Sgt. James Krome, will perform the chief’s duties in the meantime, Supervisor Chairman Robert Smith said.
