The Lehigh Valley Railroad’s Packerton Shops, at one time the “beehive” of railroad activity in this area, are fast becoming a “thing” of the past.

With the closing of the shops early last year, where repair, dismantling and building of railroad coal, box and cement cars were handled for many years, the site presently is more like a scene of a western ghost town.

For the past month or so, the Pohl Corporation of Reading has several men on duty removing the about 10 miles of rails that were used throughout the shops on which the railroad care were repaired. The work is expected to last three to five months for the four-man crew doing the rail removal.
