January 16, 1951 — Despite losing leading scorer George Welsh to an ankle injury in the opening quarter, Coaldale cruises to a 68-45 Black Diamond League victory over Blythe Township. Bob Ashmore picks up the slack left by Welsh’s departure, scoring a game-high 16 points. Andy Kalen Jr. finishes with 15 points, while Bob Zebian and Dick Porambo both finish with 13. The Tigers, coached by Andy Kalen, use a 27-point fourth quarter to turn a 10-point lead into a rout. The winners also receive 10 points from Eddie Shubeck.
