Local Roundup: Results from Jan. 11

The Marian boys basketball team remained undefeated after edging Schuylkill Haven on Saturday.

Other area winners included the Panther Valley boys and the Northwestern girls.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Marian-Schuylkill Haven

A big fourth quarter, capped by Logan Fritz’s game-winner with three seconds to play, lifted Marian to a 68-67 non-league victory over Schuylkill Haven.

The Colts (11-0), who trailed after three frames, scored 28 points in the final period on their way to clinching a district playoff berth.

Dante Agosto tallied 14 of his 19 points during the fourth, while Tyler Fritz finished with a game-high 35.

For the Hurricanes (11-2), Albe Evans had a team-high 29 points.

Marian also won the JV game, 55-48. Mason Gibson had 14 points and Chris Chambers added 12.

Catasauqua- Northwestern

Catasauqua built a big lead and then held on to post a 66-61 Colonial League win over Northwestern.

The Rough Riders, who received a game-high 27 points from Dave Troxell, led by 13 points at halftime.

Sean McCann tallied a team-high 25 points for the Tigers (7-6; 4-5), while Deven Bollinger added 15 and Luke Hallman chipped in with 12.

Allentown Central Catholic used a big third quarter to pull away for a 59-48 Eastern Pennsylvania Conference victory over Pleasant Valley.

The Vikings, who outscored the Bears 26-13 in the third, received a team-high 14 points from Liam Joyce.

Kory Kearns finished with 14 points for PV (4-7), while Noah Mitchell added 13.

Erick Marcharro scored a team-high 19 points to help Panther Valley earn a 65-59 non-league victory over Oley Valley.

The Panthers, who fell behind early, used a big 24-12 second frame to take the lead.

Aaron Gutierrez contributed 17 points to the win, while PV (8-5) also received 12 from Blake White.

Kevin Schenk scored a game-high 20 points for the Tide, who used a 28-7 second quarter to take control of the game.

The Olympians (3-10; 1-5) received 14 points from James Adames.

The Indians (6-7) received a team-high 14 points from Ben Schatz.

Line Mountain Duals

Tamaqua posted a 2-3 record at the Line Mountain Duals.

The Blue Raiders picked up victories over Wyalusing (40-32) and Pittston (39-39, won tie-breaker on least forfeits). They lost to Line Mountain (66-12), Milton (54-27) and Pocono Mountain West (45-34).

Individually for the Blue Raiders, Bronson Strouse went 5-0 with a pin, a decision and three forfeits. Randy Steigerwalt went 4-1 with three pins, while Michael Schlanta, Caleb Sell, Nate Wickersham and Aaron Coccio all picked up three victories.

9TH GRADE

Tamaqua-Lehighton

Tamaqua defeated Lehighton, 58-18.

Chase Andrews had a game-high 11 points for Tamaqua.

Tamaqua-Shenandoah

Tamaqua beat Shenandoah, 66-36.

Cian McLaughlin led the Blue Raiders with 20 points, while Cam Lewis added 15.

Tamaqua-Nativity

Tamaqua defeated Nativity, 55-16.

Cam Lewis had a game-high 15 points for the Raiders (8-1), while Cian McLaughlin added 11.
